How to use the site

Use the buttons on the top right of this page to navigate through the main sections of the website (you can also hold the control key and hit the first letter of any section to jump there without a mouse).

What's Imago Nova?

Imago Nova (latin for "image" and "novel") is a narrative project focussing on the difference in users' interpretation of the written word and conveying this in photographs. It is a form of storytelling through image.

When you join Imago Nova, you will be periodically sent a sentence/phrase/statement. Depending on how you opt to receive these, you will either hear from us in an e-mail or via text message. You can interpret the sentence in any way you wish and will ideally draw inspiration from it. You then have seven days to take a photograph and submit it to the website. It doesn't matter what you use to take the photo - digital camera, SLR, phone, etc. When you receive the second statement, you do the same again. The titles are not structured as such, but are loosely connected through the five points of narrative to form a basic story. It it up to you whether you link your photographs into one continual story, or tackle each one differently. We encourage you to carefully compose and consider your shots, engaging with the story is key to becoming a good storyteller.

As the project progresses, photos are being continually added to the website. It is fascinating to watch the story develop but the real narrative is not revealed until the project is complete. By this point, all of the submitted photos will be together. Our flash application will allow you to browse these at your leisure, randomly generating hundreds of little stories which are unique, interesting and engaging. The use of the same titles by every member ensures that each photo relates to the next in some way. You can also choose to browse the photos by member.
